MILLENNIALS / GEN Y: Denmark is world's most connected country: study

Denmark has overtaken South Korea as the world's top country for cellphone and Internet use, a study released Monday said. In third place was Sweden, followed by Iceland and Britain, emphasising European dominance in the connectivity stakes, according to the International Telecommunication Union, a leading analyst for information and communication technologies, or ICTs. Hong Kong led Asia, in ninth place in the world rankings, and the United States came 14th. The Central African Republic was last, part of a long list of African countries bringing up the tail of the list. The International Telecommunications Union's ICT development index takes into account Internet and mobile phone access and use, and the population's competence with the technology. "Over three billion people are now online and information and communication technology growth remains buoyant in just about every country worldwide," the report said. Developing countries are well behind, but catching up, with Internet usage in 2014 growing 8.7 percent, compared to 3.3 percent in the richer nations. However, of the 4.3 billion people still unconnected, 90 percent of them are in developing countries, the study found. That should change, according to the organisers. "ICTs have the potential to make the world a much better place -- in particular for those who are the poorest and the most disenfranchised, including women, youth, and those with disabilities," said the Telecommunications Union secretary general, Hamadoun Toure. https://ph.news.yahoo.com/denmark-worlds-most-connected-country-study-162710047.html

TIP: Gratitude Encourages Patience, Self-Control & Forward-Focused Outlook when it comes to your money

That’s according to some interesting research from professors at Northeastern University, the University of California Riverside and Harvard University. In their study, 75 participants were assigned to one of three groups: The first was asked to spend five minutes writing about an experience that made them feel grateful, the second was tasked with writing about something that left them feeling happy, and the third was asked to focus on the events of a typical day. Next, they were asked to make a series of choices that would either result in receiving an amount of cash immediately or a greater sum in the future. Those in a happy or neutral mood opted for instant gratification: On average, they required $55 up front to forgo receiving $85 in three months. However, the grateful group exhibited significantly more patience and self-control, needing $63 to give up future gain—a 12% difference over the other groups. http://www.learnvest.com/2014/11/how-to-be-better-at-saving-money/

Stress Management: Prioritize Invitations. Attend Only to the Events you Really Want to

Try to make the holidays less about how the songs and decorations are telling you to feel.”“People can get depressed around the holidays, especially those who have specific feelings attached to [the time of year],” explains Goldstein. “If you are not feeling like spreading ‘joy to the world,’ you might end up even more depressed because you couldn’t rise to the occasion.” How to Keep It in Check Instead of forcing your holidays to fit a certain stereotype, try to enjoy the days as they come. This is particularly important when you get overtaxed socially—listen to what your body and mind are telling you, and try to find moments of peace when you get overwhelmed. “Holidays are a time to rest, relax and take time off from work to spend with family and friends,” “Implement daily self-care when your to-do list gets long. Don’t sacrifice working out for errands. Remember to eat healthfully and don’t skip meals.” And although ’tis the season for giving, it’s O.K. to sometimes say no if it means saving your sanity. http://www.learnvest.com/2014/11/holiday-stress-management-tips/4/

TIP: For Health Reasons, Do not Over Eat during Parties this Holiday Season

Just because the season of plenty has arrived doesn’t mean you can throw your healthy sensibilities out the window.“One trick to not overeating at a holiday party is to have a healthy meal before you go, so that you’re full and won’t be tempted to overindulge,” Also, using small plates or napkins to snack instead of larger plates [can help]. If you want to taste everything, remember to take small portions—and no seconds.” http://www.learnvest.com/2014/11/holiday-stress-management-tips/3/

TIP: Turn On "SAFE SEARCH" in Google to Help Remove Explicit Materials, Pictures and Words

Make this SAFE SEARCH your Homepage: click: http://www.safesearchkids.com/ Safe Search for Kids is the child friendly search engine where safe search is always ‘on’. The safe browsing feature on this website overrides your computer search settings to help remove potentially explicit material when searching Google. No changes are made to your computer or your browser settings. Safe search happens automatically and is powered by Google. When you make Safe Search Kids your home page, or at the very least bookmark it for kids to use from within any browser, you can be sure that strict filtering, as determined by Google, is always active. Using our search tool at the top of this page also works for schools to ensure safety on every computer in your school. This is important for those educational institutions who do not have internet filtering software on their school server. It also provides a fun and colorful environment for kids to search the internet using any chosen browser. By no means does using this site do away with basic common sense about online safety. This isn’t the same world it was even 15 years ago. You don’t even need a computer to go online! Kids can connect on hand held devices including a tablet, digital reader or video game system. Technology is consistently evolving. The internet is a regular part of your child’s daily life and routine. So how can you keep children safe online? Parental Controls Just about every device includes the ability to block, restrict, limit, or allow access to various features using a pin or password. The weakest parental control features are usually sufficient for younger children, yet most teenagers can easily bypass the best parental control features to access restricted content. So it’s very important that parents don’t treat Google safe search as a babysitter. It is simply an additional tool to assist those overseeing the supervision of kids, including teachers. For complete filtering you should explore internet filtering software which also provide anti-virus protection. There may be many threats out there, but the most common problem with children and the internet is actually when kids spend too much time online. Too much screen time, period, is unhealthy. So the best “parental controls” are to restrict the total time spend each day on the computer, video games, or watching TV. After that, become familiar with the threats and the opportunities where threats may present themselves. From filtering search engines (to filter inappropriate results) to monitoring social interaction online, the best approach to internet safety is to stay positive and proactive. This website does not replace parental or teacher supervision. No safe search engine is perfect, so you may want to consider additional protection with security software beyond this free internet filter. Much of internet safety is about common sense. Having an open conversation with kids is important to setting up agreed upon guidelines when accessing in the internet. The older kids get, the more responsibility they earn and greater freedoms are given online, including the implementation of safe online research for school using tools such as Wikipedia for Kids. This of course does not mean that parental supervision goes by the way side. No search filtering tool or software security program can replace safe controls and practices online, no matter the age of the user. Unfortunately, many kids are left unattended to browse the internet as they see fit. This often can because parents and guardians have wishful thinking about what kind of troubles awaiting anyone who connects to the internet. There can be the mentality that “it won’t happen to my kids” that offers up a false sense of security. From viewing harmful material through a search engine results, to protecting kids on social media, proactive vigilance and ‘fail safes’ are necessary to make sure children and teens are not lead down a path to unsafe and unsecured practices online. Kids safe search News of the world 15 Years Google safe search Pictures Online Safe Search Online Course Windows explorer replacement Webinar best practices Google Safe Browsing for Kids Part of embracing technology as an important part of this generation is accepting that (a) there may be threats but (b) that’s not all the internet is! Google safe search filtering is only a start to protecting kids online. Your parents used to worry about you talking to strangers, or walking home from school. The world was different, but there are always things for parents to worry about when it comes to their children. With proper supervision and guidance, the internet can be a safe place full of learning and opportunity for all ages. In a nutshell, you should be aware. You should be educated. You should not be worried as long as you do your part. Children under 13 should never use the internet without adult supervision. Teens should have strict rules regarding social media and internet usage. Parents should monitor how teens are using social media and revoke access to the privilege of internet use if it is being abused. Internet Safety Strategies: Here are are few of our articles that deal with internet safety for everyone concerned, including kids themselves, parents and teachers: Normally, to turn on safe search you need to make changes within the preferences of Google’s search setting. From within these preferences, you will find three search filtering levels: Off / Moderate / Strict. The default security settings on Chrome, Internet Explorer, Safari and Firefox browsers are moderate (or mid-level) which does not filter out most inappropriate images from search results. However, Safe Search for Kids is designed to over ride default browser settings to provide ‘strict search filtering’ and prevent inappropriate images, as well as text, from displaying in results. You can also lock Google Safe Search on your computer if you have a Google account, such as Gmail. Once safe search is locked within your browser, no one but yourself can turn it off. It’s a little more involved than just changing the browser preferences. To be clear, searches conducted from this page ensure filtered results. In regards to kids internet safety, another important factor to consider is the use of multiple browsers. Increasing search filtering within the preferences on Internet Explorer will not implement those changes in Chrome, Firefox or Safari. This is another benefit to make our site your home page, because regardless of your browser or operating platform, using Safe Search Kids will ensure strict Google filtering is always activated. We also remove images from appearing beside text search results, no matter how innocent, as an added precaution. About Filtering Search Results: Safe search filters out explicit material and blocks profane words. It does not however filter out neutral words or educational material on certain matters that may not be suitable for young children. The goal is to hinder kids from accidentally stumbling across illicit material. We cannot guarantee that suggestive material will not show up in search results. It simply allows kids to safely surf the web with a much lower risk of accidentally seeing illicit material.

More than Words: Convey Your Message in Your Meetings & Conversations. Learn how

Dr. Albert Mehrabian is known for his breakdown of human communication into 7 percent spoken words, 38 percent tone of voice, and 55 percent body language. While some disagree on those numbers, all agree nonverbal communication dominates verbal. Understanding non-verbal communication is crucial for the entrepreneur. Your life and business are dependent upon successful communication with others. The inability to interpret a client’s body language could mean making an offer that’s not only premature, but potentially offensive. Related: Develop the Body Language of a Leader With These 5 Exercises Here are the key areas of body language, from head to toe, based off the work of Dr. Marvin Karlins and Joe Navarro, to pay attention to during your next important meeting. Negative facial expressions (nervousness, dislike, stress, and contempt): Furrowed forehead. Nose crinkle. Eyelid flutter. lips pursing. jaw moving to the side. repeated touching of the nose or eyelid. a smirk, corner of the lip raised. looking in a different direction while verbally responding. Positive facial expressions: Consistent eye contact. Raised eyebrows. A perked head position, nodding in agreement. A head tilt to the side is a submissive signal, exposing the throat and neck; it conveys inquisitiveness and interest. Negative torso expressions: Shoulders slowly rising and turned inward shows a lack of confidence in what's presented, and a sense of discomfort. The “Lint-Picker,” looking down and performing an irrelevant action i.e. picking imaginary lint, is a sign of disapproval and dismissal. Positive torso expressions: A ventral exposure—leaning inward is a positive sign of interest. An upright, but not stiff open chest that parallels the other person is a sign of congruence and agreement. Related: 17 Tactics for Reading People's Body Language Negative arm expressions: Placed behind the back is a regal stance of authority and wanting distance. Arms across chest in any way is an expression of concern and threat. A noticeable freeze, stiffness, complete lack of arm movement, is an attempt to conceal, to deflect, and avoid attention. Positive arm expressions: Arms at the waist, or slightly tucked into pockets with thumbs pointing forward is an inquisitive and interested stance. Arms rested across the belly-button is a relaxed and open position. Negative hand expressions: Fingers interlocked with palms pressed together conveys stress or concern. Nail biting is a sign of insecurity and nervousness. Rubbing palms together shows doubt, stress, or the need for more information. Positive Hand expressions: Hand stippling shows confidence and lack of threat. Palms showing conveys agreement and rapport. Negative Legs and feet expressions: Feet withdrawn from the front to beneath a chair is a distancing reaction that conveys discomfort. A shift from foot jiggling to foot kicking (front to back motion) is a disagreement response. Feet locked behind legs or rubbing hands on legs is a stress response and attempt to conceal feelings. If someone’s feet are pointed toward the door, that’s exactly where they want to head. Related: 4 Body Language Cues You Need to Know When Networking Positive legs and feet expressions: The foot-forward position, body weight is shifted to one hip, and the lead foot is pointing toward the speaker, this is an expression of attraction and interest. In seated positions, legs uncrossed in a neutral position—not overly spread apart, nor are the knees touching together. With reading body language, one of the most important elements is to establish a baseline. It the first few minutes of meeting someone, pay careful attention of their natural mannerisms. Otherwise, it can be easy to misread their behaviors as exaggerated when they are in fact normal. Source: https://ph.she.yahoo.com/dont-body-language-speaks-volumes-173000448.html

Read the Bible to Get Financial Advice and Guidelines on Money Management

1 Timothy 6:9-11
“For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs.”
We often hear “Money is the root of all evil” but we forget the phrase from the verse, “the love of money” and its true context. Money could be the root of all evil but more so of the lack of it. Many people are trapped into the temptation of excessive money and lavish lifestyle, more than what really one needs. With that, people get the impression that money is always bad – it’s not. Money should be an instrument to give you and your family a good life and help other people to feel the same way.

Proverbs 3:9-10

“Honor the LORD from your wealth and from the first of all your produce”
This means a proper allocation of your wealth. Obligate a portion for your needs, a portion for your savings and most importantly commit a tenth of your income to the Church or your place of worship. Also, it is said that the more money you make, the more you should give. The more spend on yourself, the more you should give for charity.

Proverbs 13:11

“Wealth obtained by fraud dwindles, but the one who gathers by labor increases it.”
If you get money from gambling, fraud and taking advantage others, you will suffer; but will be blessed if you get money out of your hard work. It is important to understand that lying, cheating and taking advantage of people are not good income channels but honest and hard work will lead to unconsciously increasing wealth.

Proverbs 21:5

“Good planning and hard work lead to prosperity, but hasty shortcuts lead to poverty.”
Careful planning is also important to building your wealth – it leads to prosperity. If you prosper financially, you have the bigger responsibility of teaching people how to fish, and later on prosper with you. It is clear that planning is essential to be able to reach your goal, but hasty shortcuts lead to poverty.

Be Mindful of Your Partner's Reactions & Emotions in Your Posts to Facebook, etc to Avoid Damaging Your Relationship

Heavy Twitter use bad for marriage: study - Yahoo She Philippines: "Heavy Twitter use can lead to conflicts and other damaging effects on marriages and romantic relationships, a study said Thursday.
The study followed up on previous research which showed similar impacts for Facebook and raises questions about whether social network use in general is bad for relationships.
The study appearing in the journal Cyberpsychology, Behavior, and Social Networking found that "active Twitter use leads to greater amounts of Twitter-related conflict among romantic partners, which in turn leads to infidelity, breakup, and divorce."
The author, University of Missouri doctoral researcher Russell Clayton, concluded that these findings add to the evidence about social network use's dark side for personal relationships.
Clayton's research published in the same journal last year found that a high level of Facebook usage was associated with "negative relationship outcomes."
The journal's editor-in-chief Brenda Wiederhold said these findings highlight the need for more study on social network use."

WELLNESS TIP: BUSINESS: Learn How to Manage, Strategize, Create Culture; Inspire; Prioritize; Juggle; Plan, Execute, Make Smart Decisions; Adapt & Win!

10 Things Real Leaders Do - Yahoo She Philippines: "Manage. Yes, leadership and management are different. Hallelujah. Whether it’s managing their company’s organization, brand, products, customer experience, operations, finances, whatever, business leaders spend most of their time managing. Leadership is a skill set. Manage is what they do.

Strategize. In the old days, the big buzzword was invention. Then it was innovation. Now it’s improvement. Whatever. If you want to lead in business, you have to come up with a unique solution to a big problem that people are willing to pay for. You can call that Sylvester if you like, but I call it strategy.

Create culture. The root of the word culture is cult. Steve Jobs created a unique, cult-like culture at Apple. Likewise John Mackey at Whole Foods and the original Trader Joe … Joe Coulombe, that is. If you’ve never been to Google, check out the movie The Internship. Great leaders are not cast in a mold. They break the mold.

Inspire. We all need inspiration at times, but real leaders are usually inspired by their lives, which typically revolve around work and family. And since their job is to inspire and motivate others, they tend to have a pretty big source of it inside. If you’re in constant need of inspiration, you’re probably not leadership material.

Prioritize. Before everyone became so obsessed with personal improvement, productivity, and time management, real executives and business leaders learned to prioritize their time. And they prioritize their organization’s time by setting direction and goals, as well. That’s how the work gets done on time.

Juggle. No matter how well you prioritize or delegate, when your business is growing, you’ve got to keep a lot of balls up in the air. And if you’re not growing, you’re stagnating. For CEOs, especially in high-growth industries, multitasking is just a way of life … and I don’t mean tweeting while watching a YouTube video.

Plan, execute, adapt. There’s a three-part cycle to operating just about any business: plan, execute, adapt. In the beginning it’s mostly ad-hoc, but the bigger a company gets and the faster it needs to scale, the more formalized its operating processes must be.

Make smart decisions. Life is full of decisions but the vast majority – like what to eat for dinner or which phone to buy – aren’t super critical. Business is not the same because, unlike food choices, competitive markets are essentially zero-sum games. The bigger your title, the more critical your decisions. Great leaders make smart decisions.

Win. Just about any type of human performance is described by a bell-curve. Every field has its top performers, its bottom performers, and everything in between. Leadership is no different. Good leaders win more than they lose. Great leaders consistently beat the competition. That’s just what they do, and they do it better than anyone else.

Bottom line: Leaders lead and followers follow. It’s not complicated – you’re either one or the other. Which are you?"

WELLNESS TIP: BUSINESS: Know that haters are going to hate. When creating online content, you have to have thick skin.

How Entrepreneurs Can Cope With Rejection Online | Entrepreneur.com: "Whether you’re dealing with trolls or people who need to correct or question every single word you type, you can’t please everyone. If you get upset at every negative comment, you’re not going to last very long.

While some comments may bring a mistake to your attention (extremely helpful), others people just want to cause trouble or try to prove that they are superior to you. Don’t lose any sleep over such cranks or sink to their level. That’s just how the online world works. Everyone has a voice and an opinion. Accept it and don’t take it personally."

WELLNESS TIP: BUSINESS: To Meet Somebody Too Busy to See You, First Study Them Online

To Meet Somebody Too Busy to See You, First Study Them Online - Yahoo She Philippines: "Speculation takes time and time is money. Nine times out of 10, speculative meetings do not yield any ROI, especially in the short-term. So working with the assumption that a busy person (aka, “the target”) isn’t going to take a speculative meeting, the upstart entrepreneur needs to do something remarkable: they need to make the meeting request impossible to decline. They need to identify the target’s favorite spot."

WELLNESS TIP: PARENTING: Kids with freer schedules are better able to meet goals

Kids with freer schedules are better able to meet goals: study - Yahoo She Philippines: "According to senior author Yuko Munakata, CU-Boulder psychology and neuroscience professor, over-structuring could interfere with the development of "self-directed executive function," a scientific term referring to independent, proactive thinking and decision-making.

ECONOMICS: Hold Your Power Within Yourself and Become Better Savers

Why People Who Embrace Power Make Better Savers: "new study found that people who feel powerful (defined by having control over valuable resources) are more likely to save money as a means of maintaining that power. And if you’re not feeling very powerful at the moment? Don’t fret. Fortunately, feelings of power are subjective and malleable—so there’s still room to change your mind, and therefore your savings habits."

WELLNESS TIP: EXERCISE TO BEAT DIABETES. Diabetics are always told to increase their physical activity and lose weight. This is because, when you’re exercising, your body derives energy from glucose reserves of your body. When that stored glucose is exhausted, your body extracts glucose from the bloodstream. This causes a drop in blood glucose levels. After your finish exercising, your liver restores the exhausted energy reserves, which further helps to reduce blood sugar levels. Regular exercise also increases your sensitivity to insulin. It also helps to burn fat, lower blood pressure cholesterol and improves circulation.

WELLNESS TIP: YOGA HELPS PREVENT DIABETES. A few minutes of regular meditation practice also acts as an excellent stress-buster for the mind and body. Interestingly, while stress is the major cause of diabetes, the condition in turn results in patients getting highly stressed about it, which further aggravates the problem. It has also been observed that most diabetics lose self-confidence and end up brooding over their condition. This is where meditation can help – restoring their confidence levels so that they gain the strength to fight the condition and live well. Craving for sweets is a common occurrence in diabetes. Regular practice of meditation can help drop such cravings to a large extent. - 10 yoga poses to keep diabetes under control | 10 yoga poses to keep diabetes under control - Yahoo Lifestyle India

WELLNESS TIP: DO NOT FORGET TO FORGIVE AND YOU CAN SLEEP WELL. Like cats, Cats sleep an average of 12 to 16 hours a day. It's a predator thing. They don't need to graze all day. Plus, it's a lot of work to chase down prey, so when they're not looking for something to eat, they're saving energy for the hunt ... even if their next meal is coming out of a can. - Financial Animals: 8 Pets Who Can Teach Us Money Lessons

WELLNESS TIP: START THE DAY WITH POSITIVE ENERGY. Avoid tackling busy or dreaded work first. While it can be tempting to “warm up” your day with busy work or your least favorite tasks, Rettig says it’s a better idea to start with something important that’s likely to yield a positive outcome. “For example, make the one or two sales calls you think are the most promising,” she says. “Accomplishments motivate you for the rest of the day.” - Ways You're Sabotaging Your Mornings - Yahoo Finance New Zealand

WELLNESS TIP: AVOID ANSWERING THE PHONE UPON WAKING UP. With caller ID, most of us have some idea who is calling when the phone rings. Unless you’re someone who handles crisis work or makes sales calls for a living, get the most out of your morning by turning off the phone, suggests Rettig. “The phone can be highly interruptive,” she says, adding that even short calls can distract you and take you off track. - Ways You're Sabotaging Your Mornings - Yahoo Finance New Zealand

WELLNESS TIP: EXERCISE UPON WAKING UP. Procrastination begins in the body, says Rettig, and deskwork helps foster it. Morning exercise gets the blood flowing and makes you more alert. If you don’t like to sweat or can’t fit in a long routine, simply start your day by stretching, twisting or dancing. “It’s important to work out the stiffness in the body, especially if you sit all day,” she says.

WELLNESS TIP: AVOID TURNING ON THE TV UPON WAKING UP. For many people, the morning routine looks like this: Take a shower. Watch some TV. Eat breakfast. Watch some TV. Walk the dog. Watch some TV. “The television stretches out our morning ritual and distracts us from our mission,” Rettig says. “Don’t get anesthetized by the TV – leave it off.” If you need background noise, she says music on the radio is better. Save talk radio for your morning commute.-

Rettig suggests staying offline until 10 a.m. “It’s easy to get sucked into the vortex of the Internet,” Rettig says. “Protect the morning for the work that’s important to you, then be available for others later in the day.”- Ways You're Sabotaging Your Mornings - Yahoo Finance New Zealand

WELLNESS TIP FOR COUPLES: HAVE A 6 MONTHS EMERGENCY FUND & CONTRIBUTE TOGETHER. Every couple gets hit with the unexpected at some point, whether it’s a job loss, illness or even natural-disaster-related repairs. An emergency situation can put even more stress on a relationship if there isn’t a cushion of money to get you through the ordeal.

14 Financial Valentines to Give Your Sweetheart: "And don’t think it can’t happen to you: In a poll conducted by Bankrate.com, only 24% of those surveyed said they had enough to cover six months of expenses. Spare yourselves the future drama, and commit to building at least six months’ worth of expenses for those “just in case” moments. Figure out how much you can sock away each month, and then contribute together."

WELLNESS TIP FOR COUPLES: COMMIT TO AN INVESTMENT FUND FOR THE FUTURE. Now, for a Valentine that represents your long-term goals. There’s nothing that says commitment more than saving up for a future home or the globetrotting you’ll do in retirement. Whatever the ultimate objective, starting an extra nest egg outside of your retirement savings helps you to both picture a future together.

14 Financial Valentines to Give Your Sweetheart: "As with your special-occasion fund, connect the account to a specific, future goal and determine when you want to accomplish it. This will not only remind you of the goal, says Faherty, but it will also help determine the best investment vehicle and asset allocation to fund"

14 Financial Valentines to Give Your Sweetheart: "Love begets love, and giving back can be a gift that warms both of your hearts. Have a heart-to-heart about the societal ills that concern you both, and then research charities that are working to address those problems."

14 Financial Valentines to Give Your Sweetheart: "Often one partner assumes the heavy lifting when it comes to managing household finances. WELLNESS TIP FOR COUPLES: GIVE HIM / HER YOUR LIFE INSURANCE POLICY. Ensuring that your partner is taken care of in the event that something happens to you—and vice versa—offers the gift of peace of mind. “You never know where the road of life will take you, and planning ahead for illness or death as well as having life insurance can help couples be ready,” says Mitchell Adel, a certified elder law attorney and managing partner at Cooper, Adel & Associates, a law firm specializing in estate planning and elder law.

14 Financial Valentines to Give Your Sweetheart: "Life insurance is especially important if you think that your loved one might have difficulties meeting monthly living expenses and paying one-time costs in the event of your death, like funeral expenses, as well as such longer-term bills as a mortgage—not to mention just the general cost of raising children."

WELLNESS TIP FOR COUPLES: BE BOTH INVOLVED IN FINANCIAL DECISION. That’s because fighting about money is why most married couples split up, according to a study by Kansas State University researcher Sonya Britt. She found that couples who argue over money early on in their relationships were at a greater risk of divorce—regardless of their income, debt or net worth levels. By meeting with an adviser, you’re making sure that both of you are involved in financial decision-making, and that you are on the same page when it comes to your bigger goals and how you’ll reach them. - Financial Valentines to Give Your Sweetheart

14 Financial Valentines to Give Your Sweetheart: "Normally, telling your significant other that you both need professional help isn’t a great sign for the longevity of a relationship. WELLNESS TIP: "Instead of asking yourself how to fix what you’re doing wrong, ask yourself how you can expand what you’re doing right."

5 Secrets to Better Life Habits: "How It Can Work for You: The Heaths explain that our default setting is to look at the negative. In fact, they tell us, a psychologist once analyzed 558 common emotion words used in the English language and found that only 38% of them were positive. Just like we tend to remember bad gossip over the good, we harbor more on the wrong results than the right ones."

'via Blog this'

WELLNESS TIP: TO BREAK BAD HABITS, BREAK DOWN RESOLUTIONS TO MICRORESOLUTIONS. “or setting goals that are so realistic and manageable that you could not possibly talk yourself out of them. Arnold stresses that the microresolution should be a precise, explicit action for it to be successful. Example, “I want to become fluent in Chinese” gets broken down into “I will learn two new Chinese words every day on the subway on my way to work.”

5 Secrets to Better Life Habits: "How It Can Work for You: Find a way to break down your financial goals to go from aspiration to execution. “I will be better with money,” may become “I will take a Money Minute on my iPhone every morning before I leave the breakfast table.” And don’t go overboard by piling on the microresolutions. Practice only one of them for the next two weeks. Once that one becomes more automatic, add a second, such as “I will walk two extra blocks to go to the non-fee ATM.”"

WELLNESS TIP: MAKE A RIGHT DECISION BASED ON ONE GOOD REASON. TRUST YOUR INSTINCT! "Your gut, your instinct, or your intuition is helping you come to a conclusion based on heuristics (the fancy way to say rules of thumb) that your brain has absorbed as a result of time, experience and evolution."

5 Secrets to Better Life Habits: "When you go with your gut, you’re not just working off emotion; you’re actually disposing of information that your brain instantly and intuitively deems unnecessary. In other words, you’re unconsciously separating the wheat from the chaff in order to make a lightning-fast decision. (It’s how baseball players, for instance, know to catch a ball). Gigerenzer tells us that the theory that you can make a right decision based on one good reason, rather than many, is dubbed “take the best.”"

WELLNESS TIP: MAKE IT HARDER "NOT TO DO" THE SMART THING. Example: If u want to eat healthier, achieve this by simply moving the healthy food to to your eye level and puts the unhealthy food further back and out of reach. According to the authors, changing how the foods are displayed could up the consumption of healthier food by as much as 25%.

5 Secrets to Better Life Habits: "Best of all? It’s actually the easiest move. She hasn’t eliminated anyone’s freedom of choice; she’s simply made a small tweak that makes the healthier food decision a little more user-friendly. Thaler and Sunstein call this “choice architecture,” or influencing decisions by changing the context of how the choices are presented. They argue that, in a similar fashion, we can “nudge” other people, and ourselves, to make the best decision simply by making, or “architecting,” small tweaks to our own environments."

WELLNESS TIP: Practice "IMPLEMENTATION INTENTION. One key to adopting a better habit is to create a connection between a specific situation and a resulting action, and then practice repeating that process. One way to do this is to put the desired outcome into an “if … then” statement. For instance, if you’re trying to be a kinder person this year, say, “If I see a person struggling with a stroller, then I will offer to help.”

5 Secrets to Better Life Habits: "How It Can Work for You: You can apply implementation intention to just about any money habit you want to adopt. Just make sure the “if” trigger is not so specific that it gives you few opportunities to try out your new habit, says Dean, and not so wide that it it’s too vague. For instance, if you want to chip away at credit card debt, try something like this: “If I am buying something that is less than $30, then I will use cash.”"

WELLNESS TIP: Be Happy, Eat Dark Chocolates. "That warm chocolately hug you feel inside every time you give in to the sweet stuff isn’t just your imagination. A study published in the Journal of Psychopharmacology found that participants who consumed a chocolate infused drink every day felt happier and calmer than a control group who didn’t have the drink. WELLNESS TIP: Be Calm, Eat Brown Rice. "Brown rice is the perfect food for people who regularly suffer from mood swings, and that’s because it’s high in soluble fibre. Fibre slows the absorption of sugar into the bloodstream, which serves to stabilise your mood and decrease mood swings. Mood swings commonly occur during high-stress periods of your life, and can severely impact on both your career and personal life. Wellness Tip: Avoid Sugar to be Sweet! Because "Sugar can make you feel angry Just as fibre can calm you by stabilising your blood sugar, consuming too much sugar can cause fluctuations in your blood sugar and have the opposite effect. Although you might crave sugar and experience an initial mood boost when you first have it, over time it will lead to mood swings and make you feel angry. Researchers at Princeton University found that these mood swings are amplified by the fact that sugar can be as addictive as some drugs. They found that the body can become dependent on sugar if enough is consumed, which leads to mood altering cravings. And when you finally give in and have a sugary snack? The whole cycle starts over again, and your mood swings worsen." - 5 surprising foods that can affect your mood - Yahoo She Philippines

WELLNESS TIP IN YOUR 40's AND 50's: Pay off the house. The last thing you want to do is enter retirement with a mortgage payment. Make it a goal to be done with house payments before you retire. One option: Make half a mortgage payment every two weeks—you’ll end up making one full extra payment every year, which will slightly accelerate your payoff schedule. “It puts you in a position to have very little or no housing costs outside of your property taxes,” Kirkpatrick says. - What Are Your 'High-Earning Years'? WELLNESS TIP IN YOUR 40's AND 50's: PRIORITIZE RETIREMENT. Funding your living expenses in retirement should be your most important goal right now, but a lot of people get distracted by college bills—and the feeling that you’re doing well, so you don’t have to save so much toward retirement. “People are not realistic,” Lyons Cole says. “They don’t understand that you can’t write a check to your kid’s college unless your retirement is really, truly on track.” You should be saving at least 15% of your income toward retirement—and more if you can swing it, she says. Ideally, Lyons Cole would like people to be putting 25% away overall, including retirement, emergency, and general savings. - What Are Your 'High-Earning Years'? Pay in Your 20s, 30s and 40s

WELLNESS TIP: IN YOUR 30's: Continue Saving. Keep socking it away. You’re probably making exponentially more now than you were 10 years ago, but that means you should be saving more—for retirement!—not treating yourself to all the luxuries in life. “We get to our 30s and suddenly we’re making money, and we’re like, ‘I deserve a nice car,’” Lyons Cole says. “Be conscious of that psychological effect. Sure, you deserve a nice car, but that car doesn’t have to be a BMW.” If possible, use this decade to bump your retirement savings up to at least 15% of your income. - What Are Your 'High-Earning Years'? WELLNESS TIP ON CAREER MANAGEMENT IN YOUR 20's: Save like crazy. In the early years, life is relatively uncomplicated, financially at least. You may not have kids or a mortgage or aging parents to divert your attention—but that doesn’t mean you’re diligently saving for retirement. “For a lot of people, this stage means spending,” says Stephany Kirkpatrick, CFP®, and director of financial planning for LearnVest Planning Services. “We buy cars, take trips, we get a housekeeper for the first time. But that shouldn’t come ahead of saving enough to get your 401(k) company match.” Key goals right now should include putting enough aside in your employer-sponsored retirement plan to get any company match, and socking three to six months of living expenses in a savings account for emergencies. WELLNESS TIP: LIGHT THERAPY CAN BEAT JET LAG AND MANAGE SLEEP SCHEDULE: Using light therapy will affect the production of melatonin in the body. Melatonin is a hormone produced by the body during darkness and is broken down during daylight – and its presence or absence effectively causes you to feel sleepy in the dark and awake in the sunshine. An intense application of light is thought to ‘reset’ the body clock by suppressing the production of melatonin – thereby keeping you awake during the daytime at your destination. Childless couples are happier with their relationships - New research from Open University in the UK finds that couples without children are more satisfied with their relationships than couples with kids. In a study of more than 5,000 adults, findings showed that childless couples have happier marriages and feel more valued in their relationships, reports The Guardian. But researchers also found that women without children were the least happy with their lives overall, whereas mothers were happier than any other group, even if they had troubles in their relationships. Yet fathers were twice as likely as mothers to report a lack of sexual intimacy as the biggest problem in their relationship. Findings also showed that important factors in keeping a relationship healthy included saying thank you and giving compliments. - Yahoo She Philippines

And from the shortest cycle (eg. 28 days) subtract 18 (answer = 10). You are only fertile one day, or more specifically, 12 hours, each month. It can happen anytime from Day 10 to Day 24 of your cycle. If you want to start your family early, have sex during these fertile days. On the other hand, if babies aren’t in your plans for the next few years, then avoid each other on said days. 2. BASAL BODY TEMPERATURE METHOD Take and record your temperature by mouth every morning before you get out of bed. You will notice a steady, constant daily temperature around 36.1 C to 36.4 C. Then, one day, you will note an increase in temperature to around 36.8 C to 37.1 C. This means you have already ovulated. The temperature will stay in the 37 C level until you get your period again. At that point, it will go down again to the 36 C level. If you achieve pregnancy during this cycle, your temperature will remain elevated indefinitely. 3. CERVICAL MUCUS METHOD The last of the fertility awareness methods is probably the easiest to follow. Take a sample of your vaginal discharge every day. Familiarize yourself with the consistency because it varies depending on the day of the cycle. On the days that the discharge is clear and slippery, those are the days that the sperm can swim all the way up and meet the egg and achieve a pregnancy. While on the days that the discharge is thick and clumpy, the sperm will be trapped and will not be able to meet the egg and no baby will be formed.- CONTRACEPTION 101: What you need to know about fertility awareness (Part 1) - Yahoo She Philippines

WELLNESS TIPS ON HOW TO LOSE WEIGHT: TRANSFORM YOUR HOME INTO HEALTH SPA. HERE'S HOW: "Minesweep for calorie bombs. Banish any "risky," fattening or unhealthy foods from the house. Control your environment. Don't be a disorganized eater. Stock your home (and office) with delicious, healthy foods, such as with batch recipes; piles of clean, chopped, ready-to-grab fruit and veggie dishes and snacks; and delicious yogurts and dips. Hit the ground running. Start every day with physical activity. Don't even think about it! Before checking email, taking phone calls or applying make-up, get out the door for a walk, jump on your home treadmill, go to bootcamp or go to the gym. You can also start the day with yoga — I believe in yoga for providing strength, balance and flexibility, and at a lower cost than many gyms. Eat breakfast every morning. You should eat breakfast, preferably at home, so you're not tempted by the bagel-the-size-of-your-head at the office. Skimping on breakfast usually backfires and causes over-eating later. Eat light at night. At nighttime, you want to consume fewer calories than you would early in the day. Soup is ideal for helping you feel satisfied with fewer calories, so you don't go to bed feeling too full and can wake up hungry for a good breakfast in the morning. Sleep at least seven to eight hours, nightly. Study after study has shown that sleep disturbances are correlated with weight problems. It takes a village. Spend your time with like-minded people and avoid people who will sabotage your goals. This is an important feature of being at a spa, one reason being there makes achieving weight-loss goals so easy. If your spouse or friends are not on board, it will be difficult to stick with any plan.- 7 Simple Steps for a Post-Holiday Health Detox - Yahoo She Philippines

WELLNESS TIPS ON HOW TO REACH YOUR GOALS: Put pen to paper. Keeping those big ideas in your head won’t get you where you want to go. Researchers from Dominican University found that people who wrote down their goals were more likely to reach them. “It’s important to include specific details and write them in present tense—even if those goals are still years away,” says Alexa. In other words, write “I have $50,000 in savings,” not “I want to have $50,000 in savings.” And keep it positive: “I live in sunny Los Angeles,” versus “I’ve left a hideously cramped apartment in the Northeast.” Norcross says these types of techniques take you from the “contemplation” stage to the “action” stage of moving toward a goal."

WELLNESS TIPS ON HOW TO REACH YOUR GOALS: See the “winning” you. Visualization, or the act of composing a mental image of yourself completing a behavior, is an age-old technique athletes use to prepare for competition—in fact, one historic study by psychology professor Alan Richardson found that basketball players who pictured themselves successfully making free throws, but barely practiced, improved their actual performance nearly as much as those who practiced a lot. “Visualizing your future goals can be incredibly powerful and make you feel more confident about achieving them,” says Alexa.

Wellness Tip on Money: See Where You Stand. Have a bird’s eye view of your money so you know how much is coming in and how much is going out.

7 Steps to Help You Have More Money This Year:

Wellness Tip on Money: Divvy up your take-home pay according to the 50/20/30 principle.Essential Expenses No more than 50% of your take-home pay should go toward Essential Expenses, which are the expenses you need in order to maintain the fundamentals of your life: shelter, food, heat, etc. Only four expenses go in this category: housing, transportation, utilities and groceries. Financial Priorities At least 20% of your take-home pay goes to Financial Priorities, which are the goals that are essential to a strong financial foundation. These include your retirement contributions, savings contributions and debt payments, if you have debt. You should make these contributions and payments after you pay your Essential Expenses, but before you do any other spending. Lifestyle Choices No more than 30% of your take-home pay should go to Lifestyle Choices, which are personal, voluntary and often fun choices about how you spend your discretionary income. They often include cable, internet and phone plans, charitable giving, childcare, entertainment, gym fees, hobbies, pets, personal care, restaurants, bars, shopping and other miscellaneous expenses.

7 Steps to Help You Have More Money This Year: "You’ll be able to see how much of your paycheck should be allotted toward your essential expenses (like rent), fun lifestyle expenses (like vacations or spa treatments), and priority goals like saving or paying down debt. Knowing how much you have to work with within those parameters can serve as the framework for other major money decisions for the year."

Wellness Tips on Money: Be aware of what your spending triggers are, because that will factor into creating a budget you can live with—and stick to. “The start of a new year is a good time to look at spending habits. Things like cable, eating out, and shopping could be preventing you from saving.”

7 Steps to Help You Have More Money This Year: "Next, you should assess what you spent your money on last year, by category. If you’ve set up your Money Center, you can look at your historical spending according to the expense folders you have labeled. Many credit card providers will also let you download a yearly summary of your purchases by category."

Wellness Tip on Money: There are probably steps you can take around the house that can cut from your utility bills—an energy audit is a good place to start.

7 Steps to Help You Have More Money This Year: "If cutting the cord frees up an extra $100 bucks that you could put toward the summer family reunion trip, your TV habit may be worth the sacrifice. Likewise, if you spend $75 on haircuts six times a year, but think you can manage just four trips to the salon, that’s $150 you can put toward the new car you need by year’s end."

Wellness Tips on Money: Make sure that your money never hits your wallet. For instance, if $50 a month is what you will save by biking to work once a week, “Figure out a way to send $50 every paycheck to a savings account,” Blaylock says. “You’ll be amazed at how quickly you can amass an impressive pile of cash through this ‘set it and forget it’ technique.” The same goes for credit card payments automatically deducted from your bank account at the same time every month. You probably won’t miss the money, and your card balance will shrink faster than you realize.

7 Steps to Help You Have More Money This Year: "Hunting for hidden savings won’t help you if you don’t funnel your newfound funds into investment or savings accounts. Lots of folks “may cut out the lattes, but they’ll increase their budget somewhere else. The key is not only cutting back, but also having a plan for what to do with that leftover money,” Blaylock says. For instance, if reducing your daily trips to the coffee shop yields you a giant-screen TV rather than a badly needed emergency fund, you’re probably putting your basic security at risk."

Wellness Tips on Money: Are your Goal Realistic? If you have an estimate on how much you think your larger goal will cost, divide that cost by 12 and see just how much you’d have to stash away every month. That will give you a reality check.

7 Steps to Help You Have More Money This Year: "“If you are currently saving $100 a month, and you decide you want to save $10,000 a month, that’s probably a dumb goal,” Blaylock says. “But if you want to stretch yourself, save $500 a month instead.” Then you can determine whether you’ll have to downsize your dream vacation—or maybe just put it off for a few more months. And remember—you can always set up a priority folder in your Money Center specifically to track the progress you’re making toward that major goal."

Wellness Tips on Money: Don’t be discouraged if an unexpected expense knocks your goals off track for a month or two. Get refocused, and take it one day at a time. “Nobody expects you to make all the right financial decisions 100 percent of the time,” But ideally you do things better than you did the year before.”

7 Steps to Help You Have More Money This Year: "Ultimately, your new goals and refreshed budget are providing you with rules to live by, not die by. So don’t beat yourself up if you splurge one month on dinners out or a well-deserved weekend getaway. “It’s not about perfection, it’s about progress,” Blaylock says."

Beware of These 5 Secretly Salty Foods: Sandwich Meats Even low-salt deli-style turkey meat packs a painful sodium punch: A single slice has 216 mg! (And who eats just one slice?) The same amount of rotisserie chicken breast has 97 mg -- and is just as yummy on a sandwich. | Healthy Living - Yahoo She Philippines

Beware of These 5 Secretly Salty Foods | Healthy Living - Yahoo She Philippines: "4. American Cheese
Moms, pay attention to this one: A single slice of American cheese has 468 mg of sodium -- that's more than three times the recommended dose per serving! Swap in Swiss for those grilled cheese sandwiches -- it has a mere 20 mg per slice. If the kids won't eat Swiss, try cheddar. It packs more sodium than the 100 mg per ounce Larson recommends, but at 174 mg per slice, it's a much better pick than American cheese."

10 Easy-to-Follow Rules for Healthy Eating |Rule #1: Eat Two Pounds of Vegetables Every single day. "Loading your diet with vegetables will naturally crowd out things you shouldn't be eating," says Joel Fuhrman, MD, author of Eat to Live Cookbook, who recommends this amount after analyzing studies connecting vegetable consumption with overall health. Aim for one pound raw and one pound cooked: Certain cancer-fighting compounds in some vegetables, like broccoli, cabbage, and kale, are better absorbed raw, while cooking others (carrots, sweet corn) can boost their levels of antioxidants. Though two pounds might sound like a lot, a single sweet potato can get you a quarter of the way there. "You don't necessarily need to measure your food; just use this figure as a reminder to eat a hefty amount of veggies every day," Fuhrman says. "Work in cooked greens and interesting stir-fries, and you're set." Shine Food - Yahoo She Philippines

"Processed Food 101. Eating more real food doesn't mean avoiding all packaged goods. While anything that comes in a sealed bag or a box is "processed" to some degree (the term simply refers to food that's been changed from its original state), not all packaging automatically indicates a dietary no-no. Here's what to look for. Buy Washed greens, sliced vegetables, and roasted nuts: They're minimally processed, simply prepped for convenience. Packaged at their peak (to lock in flavor and nutrition), canned beans and tomatoes and frozen produce are also fine choices. But you don't have to limit yourself to these. The real trick is reading labels: "If you recognize most ingredients as food," says Darya Pino Rose, PhD, author of Foodist, "or what comes from the ground or an animal, you're in good shape."" Wellness Tip" When trying to forge a new, responsible financial you, creating a new way of doing things takes time, and a small money mistake today is just a chance to do better tomorrow. Don't give up, in time you will learn how to responsibly handle your finances.

10 Helpful Money Habits to Adopt Today: "In fact, a study published in the European Journal of Social Psychology shows that for some people, it takes a few weeks to hammer home good practices; others need months. But no matter how long it took each individual to cement their new habits, not a single one was completely derailed by a slip-up here and there."

Wellness Tip: Think about one spending habit you'd really like to change: Maybe it's the $50 you spend on work lunches each week. Maybe it's the fact that you can't seem to get out from under your debt. Then create a mantra designed to combat it, such as, “I only splurge on entertainment after I’ve paid my credit card bill in full." Better yet, write it down and pin it to your bulletin board, or snap a pic and make it the background on your phone.

10 Helpful Money Habits to Adopt Today: "Adopt a Spending Mantra
It turns out mantras aren't just for yogis anymore. A recent report by behavioral economist Dr. Hersh Shefrin shows that creating a financial rule of thumb to guide your spending decisions can actually help make us better money managers.

While scientists call them "heuristics," not mantras, they work specifically because adopting a personal belief we want to live by—even if we invent it ourselves—makes us feel guilty if we don't abide by it. "

Once you start asking, you'll be surprised how often you choose to invest in your future instead of spending on things that are unnecessary
