Silent Signals Sometimes, it doesn't even take a single word to send out a message loud and clear. Is your body language skewing others' view of you? Are your expressions, gestures, and positions revealing feelings you'd rather keep hidden -- or that you aren't even aware of?

Handshake

Handshakes and first impressions go, well, hand in hand. A nice, firm grip combined with a hearty (but not too hearty) shake can imply you're outgoing and confident. A limp and weak squeeze sets you up as unsure. How long you hold your shaker's hand matters, too: If you drop out too quickly, it can suggest shyness.

Licking Your Lips

Maybe you're just daydreaming about lunch, but to a conversation partner, licking your lips can read as sexual attraction. You may also wet them when talking about a romantic partner -- which can be a sign you're sexually satisfied and deeply in love.

Nodding

Bobbing your head up and down during a conversation can make you seem agreeable and interested. Nods are catching, so if you nod while you speak, you might convince others to go along with what you're saying.

Posture

There's a reason people say they're "in a slump" when things aren't going their way. Science says slouching your shoulders can make you hold on to stress and feel sad. Standing up straight can help you feel positive and come across as confident and focused.
Having trouble standing tall? Check in with your doctor to see if there's an underlying medical cause like osteoporosis.

Touching Your Face and Hair

Twirling a lock, brushing back your bangs, or bringing your hands to your face can come across as flirty. "Self-grooming" behaviors like these may make it seem like you're hoping for attention from someone you fancy.

Locking Eyes

A steady gaze creates a mixed bag of emotion. If the person you're talking to is comfortable with you, they're more likely to find you trustworthy if you hold eye contact. If they're unsure about you, a long look will make you seem more threatening. And no matter what someone thinks of you, everyone has an eye contact threshold where things start to feel … awkward.

Smiling

A feel-good grin is contagious. When you smile at someone, it sends a signal to their mouth muscles to do the same. Their smile triggers the parts of their brain that deal with happiness, and they feel a greater sense of connection with you.

Stance

Standing wide with uncrossed legs or arms tends to give off an "open and available" vibe. Staring at the ground or keeping your arms across your chest are more likely to send the signal that you're closed off and out of reach.

Hand Gestures

Want to be memorable? Talk with your hands. When you gesture as you gab, it's more likely that your words will linger in someone's mind. But don't overdo it. Big movements may make you seem out of control and excitable.

Dilated Pupils

You may want to slip on some shades next time you're around your crush so the "windows to your soul" don't give away your secret longing. When you're interested in or aroused by someone, your pupils dilate. It's not something you can control, but it may help you out with your object of affection: having larger pupils tends to make you more attractive to others.

Tense Lips

If you tend to press your lips together, you should know: Liars are more likely to have this habit than people who tell the truth. Being (literally) tight-lipped could make you come across as untrustworthy.

Distance

It's good to respect personal space, but when you lean away from someone, they're more likely to suspect your motives. Same goes for fidgeting or crossing your arms. Leaning forward suggests partnership and that they can rely on you.

Microexpressions

No matter how hard you try to "fix your face," it may still give you away -- and it only takes a fraction of a second. Just a flash of a facial twitch, grimace, or raised brow leaves an impression that's hard to shake. So if your unguarded reaction to something is disgust, chances are an observer may sense that in their gut, even if they can't say why.

Mirroring

Copying the way someone's standing, their expressions, or even their accent often builds trust and understanding between you. But this doesn't always work. If you're in a position of power over the person you're mirroring, it can weird them out. Another barrier: Botox. When you can't furrow your brow alongside someone else, for example, you won't be able to relate to their feelings as deeply -- and vice versa.

Congo Basin youth spotlight their work protecting fragile forest ecosystem at UN Climate Conference

Youth groups working in Africa’s Congo Basin countries are supporting economic progress in isolated rural communities while protecting the forest, and it is high time their voices were heard, a young woman at the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP23) in Bonn, Germany
“Young people in the Congo Basin have been doing things on the ground that often go ignored,” explained Marie Tamoifo, President of the Cameroon Green Youth Association (Association de la Jeunesse verte du Cameroun – AJVC) and Regional Coordinator of the Youth Network for sustainable management of forest ecosystems in Central Africa (RĆ©seau des jeunes pour la gestion durable des Ć©cosystĆØmes forestiers d’Afrique centrale - REJEFAC) in an interview with UN News.
REJEFAC brings together youth organizations from 10 Congo Basin countries – Burundi, Cameroon, Gabon, Equatorial Guinea, Central African Republic, Democratic Republic of Congo, Republic of Congo, Rwanda, Sao Tome and Principe and Chad).
Its aim is to promote the effective participation of young environmental actors in decision-making in the Congo Basin and “to contribute to the emergence in the region of a new type of leadership, more sensitive and open to the requirements of sustainable development.”
“[As for] actions on the ground, there are reforestation, awareness and education programmes for young people. It's about strengthening the work that is done by governments,” said Ms. Tamoifo.
A solar panel programme in isolated communities
For several years, AJVC has been developing a programme in Cameroon for the electrification of isolated rural areas with solar panels. The programme started in 15 pilot communities in the east, in the center and in the far north of the country with the installation of solar panels in homes and schools. A contribution is made by the community itself, representing 25 to 30 per cent of the cost.
“In these 15 communities, we trained 85 young people in solar installation techniques but also in psycho-socio-organizational methodology," explained Ms Tamoifo. “When we arrive in a community, we first hold a discussion with that community. We try to see with [them] what the glaring problems are.”
The youth participating in this programme are from the community. They are trained and they provide maintenance for the solar panels that have already been installed. “For now, they are not really paid. They receive a small allowance,” added Ms.Tamoifo.
The association needs more financial support to maintain and expand this programme. "We have received more than 100 requests from villages and we cannot answer them given [our] modest means. And young people who are trained today also need to make a living to be able to continue this work,” she said.
A ‘climate caravan’ in Cameroon
Among other actions carried out by young people in the Congo Basin region, the REJEFAC Coordinator mentioned a tree planting initiative by volunteers in the Republic of Congo, and a programme focusing on handicrafts and conservation of natural resources in Rwanda.
Before coming to COP 23, the network organized a 'climate caravan' in Cameroon with the participation of young people from the ten countries of the Congo Basin to show what youth organizations are doing in terms of sustainable development and protection of the planet.
"We organized this caravan which was named ‘the COP at home,’” said the Coordinator of REJEFAC. Young people have been designated as climate ambassadors.
The ‘climate caravan’ travelled in the Douala region, coastal areas and went to Equatorial Guinea. “It showed how we could talk about the theoretical aspect and go on the ground to experience the realities of conservation parks and conflicts between humans and elephants,” concluded Ms. Tamoifo.

How To Attract People Who Truly Appreciates You

"1. Be Yourself

If you want someone to love you for who you are, you have to be able to express your true self.  By portraying yourself you keep everything simple. Life and relationships are complicated enough with out personas. You can’t truly grow with someone if they only experience false aspects of your personality. You demonstrate perspective and strength when you are genuine.

2. Be Honest

It takes confidence and bravery to be honest. People will take note and respect you for your ability to speak your truth. More over, when you are honest with people,  the way you present truths is important. The truth can be stated in ways that don't hurt others and doesn’t make them feel worse off for the knowledge.

3. Have A Sense Of  Humor

Everyone likes to laugh, so don’t be afraid to show your humorous side. People want someone who is not only aware of their surroundings, but comfortable enough to laugh about it. Don’t be something you're not, but show that you appreciate laughter and demonstrate your ability to make other’s laugh.

4. Practice Selflessness

The ability to reorder your priorities and remove yourself from the focal point demonstrates not only your maturity but encourages faith in your potential.

5. Be Open-Minded

You partner will respect your ability to stay open to the possibilities. It takes confidence, competence, and awareness to be receptive. An open mind is able to roll with the punches in life easier than a closed mind. People feel more comfortable around an open minded individual. They can open up to you with out fear of judgment.

6. Be Helpful

A productive and positive attitude makes you a highly sought after personality. Everyone needs help every so often, but it can be difficult to ask for help. Anticipating a person’s needs and helping them in a manner that helps them and enforces independence.

7. Practice Humility

No one wants to be around an arrogant or grandiose person, especially when that person is so close to us. You can’t open up to a person with out humility. A humble person can work in a team, and make people feel comfortable. A not humble person makes people defensive, doesn’t compromise or do any of the things mentioned in this list. Humility is key for taming an ego.
